Speaking at a press conference held last Thursday at the Police HQ, Head Inspector Mohamed Jinah of the Drug Enforcement Unit said that they had found a little more than half a kilo of drugs from a room inside the seventh floor apartment of G. Fine. He said that they had found 10 small, plastic film containers filled with drugs and five “joos petty” packets filled with heroin. He further said that they had also found some of the drugs from the film containers prepared for sale on the streets as “pieces”. Police had found 90 such “pieces” from the room.

Authorized with a Court warrant, Police also arrested one person in connection to the drugs found in the room. Ali Evan, 25, of Gandhakoalhivilla in Gaafu Alifu atoll Kolamaafushi had admitted to drug possession when he was arrested.

Jinah said that the drugs had been found during an early stage of being prepared for distribution across the country, and so was a major victory for the Police and their fight against drugs.
