Last minute talks between CEB trade union and the officials of the Ministry of Power and Energy ended on a negative note today. Although the government had stated that a cabinet paper instructing the relevant institutions to increase the salary of its employees according to their profit will be sent tonight, the increase will only be given from the beginning of next year with the inclusion of arrears for two months.

“We are unhappy with the outcome of the meeting and the government is passing the buck to the relevant institutions without solving the problem. We demand the amount which was promised to us from 2006,” the secretary for the Trade Union Front of the Ceylon Electricity Board Mr. Ranjan Jayalal told Daily Mirror Online.

He further added that they had not received a written assurance at the meeting, and that even if they did so, written assurance’s had been broken many times earlier.

Jayalal stated that they have decided to take joint trade union action from the middle of next month as there was no other option and that the type of action will be decided after all trade unions meet on Sunday the 1st on November.
