Principal becomes first A-H1N1 victim in Kurunagala

The first death in Kurunagala from the A H1N1 influenza was reported today with the demise of a 58 year old school principal who had been admitted to the Kurunagala Teaching Hospital yesterday with symptoms of the flu.

K.W Gunathilaka, a father of two hailing from the Moragolla area of Kurunagala in the North-Western Province had been admitted to hospital by his family yesterday and had succumbed to the illness today – the day scheduled for his daughters wedding.

Kurunagala JMO H.M.K Senanayake had confirmed the death to be that of the A H1N1 ‘swine’ flu while hospital sources have said that over 28 persons are currently warded at the Kurunagala Teaching Hospital with the influenza.

Reports also say that large numbers of officers from the army camp in Kurunagala have fallen ill with the virus.
