Belihuloya University closes over virus fever fears
Authorities at the Sabaragamuwa University in Belihuloya have decided to temporarily close down educational operations for seven days beginning today because of fears stemming from the outbreak of a virus fever amongst its students. The University accordingly next opens on the 2nd of December, according to authorities.
Vice Chancellor at the Sabaragamuwa University Professor Mahinda Rupasinghe speaking to Daily Mirror online said that the decision to temporarily close down the school had come after the virus fever spread rapidly to over 500 students in the course of just yesterday and today.
He said following the campus doctors diagnosis of the viral fever he had decided to close the university and had asked the students to return home, rest and prevent the further spreading of the fever for the next week.
Professor Rupasinghe added however that the ‘holiday’ was applicable to the students of the university only and not to the staff and administrative board, who would be carrying on with their duties as per usual.
The Sabaragamuwa University in Belihuloya offers educational opportunities for as many as 2700 students.
