According to Sri Lanka Air Force, the burnt parts belonged to light aircraft engines or gliders. Two gear levers, pedals and a few other accessories have been identified among other components.

It is believed that the LTTE had burnt those aircraft parts in a hurry during the final stages of the humanitarian operations as they were losing grip on the ground. Sri Lanka Air Force are conducting further investigations.
