Monday Mar 26, 2007 COLOMBO: Tiger Terrorist Light Aircraft failed to target country’s newly acquired MiG ground aircrafts late last night a senior military official told the Daily News.
Military spokesman Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe told the Daily News that two loud explosions were heard from the Katunayake Airforce Base immediately after the failed attempt by the LTTE.
A senior military official told the newspaper that the information provided by certain elements on the newly acquired MiGs also had helped the LTTE to target the ground aircrafts. He condemned it as a treacherous act.
Brigadier Samarasinghe denied certain foreign news agency reports that there was an attack on the international airport. He described them as mischievous. He said the airport was functioning normally and requested the public not to panic by these rumours.
